Health Level 7 (HL7) is the organization responsible for designing, implementing and standardizing the HL7 protocol. Health Level 7 is often used to describe both the governing body as well as the HL7 protocol itself. From this point forward, we’ll simply refer to Health Level 7 as HL7 as it’s easier to type and understand.
